Amazon.com Review This replacement probe fits the Polder Preprogrammed Cooking Thermometer, Wireless Remote Cooking Thermometer/Timer, and the Smart Fork. The 8-inch-long curved probe inserts into even the largest roast, while the 39-inch wire is long enough to reach from the cooking food to the sensor unit. The probe stays in the meat during cooking, and the oven door closes over the wire. Not to be used for taking the oven temperature, the probe is suitable for measuring cooking temperatures up to 392 degrees F (200 degrees C). Heat-resistant gloves or potholders should be used when handling the hot wire and probe. --Ann Bieri

replacement probe December 16, 2008 T. Lubinski This probe works great on the older model Polder timer. As other people have mentioned, be very careful not to get the connection wet where it connects to the probe. It will short out.
No good for gas fired cooking December 5, 2008 Systems_Consultant (Eden Prairie, Mn United States) The Polder probes have two problems: 1) Quality control is very poor. The replacement one I just bought, and am reviewing here, reads 14 degrees lower than the actual temperature. You think you're roast is medium rare, but instead, it's well done. Don't trust one of these things without testing it in boiling water to make sure it reads close to 212 degrees F. 2) The wire lead is made from a material that fails if it is subject to temperatures higher than 392 degrees F. This limitation is documented on Amazon's product page. However it seems that it is very common to exceed this temperature when using gas fired ovens or barbeque grills. While the food may be well below this temperature, I seems that most users don't realize that the hot gases rising from the gas burners below the meal are much hotter than the probe wire can withstand. This is true in many ovens or barbecue enclosures even if the overall oven temperature is around 350 degrees F. I suspect that this is probably what is causing the high number of failures. Unfortunately, many people cook with gas flames and don't realize that they are exceeding the temperature that the probe wire can handle. Therefore, this thing isn't really as useful as it might appear. I only use mine in my electric oven now. It works fine there (if you can get an accurate probe that is...).
Works, but often needs to be replaced. Overheats easily. February 5, 2008 Ruth Cessna 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the THIRD replacement probe I've bought for my Polder timer/thermometer. I think I've had it with this thing and won't bother with any more replacements. It's slow to pick up a temperature reading (it is NOT "instant read" thermometer!), which is bad if you're using it for candy making or chocolate. You can, however, stick it in a meat and stick it in the oven. It overheats pretty easily, which renders it useless and then you have to buy another probe. I think Polder is actually in the replacement probe business, that's probably how they stay afloat.
No failures here November 13, 2007 Patrick Jacobs (Washington DC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The trick to keeping this probe working is to keep it dry- don't ever let water leak into the probe when the wire attaches. I've had one for four years and it still functions perfectly
Get a backupand a backup to your backup August 15, 2007 Bradley J. Hobbs (Auburn, WA) A definite must-have if you already own a probe thermometer unit. These probes get dirty sometimes and need replacing. Might want to pick up four or five.
