Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This is the ONLY remote meat / barbecue thermometer that can monitor 2 types of meat or 2 doneness levels (i.e. rare, medium, well done, etc.). Just insert one or both probes into your favorite cuts of meat and select how want them cooked. When the meat is cooked exactly to your liking, the receiver will let you know by beeping. Both the receiver and the transmitter (which is attached to the probes) display the progressive meat temperature in 5-second intervals on their easy-to-read LCD screens. The receiver also displays a clock and timer. Suitable for outdoor barbecue or indoor oven use, this dual-probe wireless barbecue thermometer system makes the perfect gift for anyone who enjoys cooking! Use it to get perfectly cooked beef, chicken, fish, pork, lamb or any other common grill meats. Uses 2 AAA and 2 AA batteries (not included).

Amazon.com Review
Cooking a dinner-party roast, holiday turkey, or backyard-barbecue pork loin to precisely the proper temperature without fuss is a snap with this thermometer. You can even monitor two foods (beef and lamb, for instance) simultaneously, since two stainless-steel probes are included, each 6 inches long and each connected to a 39-inch stainless-steel wire.

Here's how it works: program the tool (two AA batteries included) by selecting either "beef," "veal," "lamb," "pork," "chicken," or "turkey." Then program to rare, medium-rare, medium, or well-done. The monitor displays the proper temperature--which can be altered by pressing a button. Place the probe into, say, a turkey. Run the wire from the oven and close the door. (Door should remain closed until turkey is done so oven temperature doesn't vary.) Plug the wire into the monitor, and open the monitor's built-in stand. Set the clock to the current time. (Remember, two probes can be used simultaneously for different foods, with the monitor programmed separately for each.) The monitor constantly displays the turkey's internal temperature and elapsed cooking time. (The timer can be used independently of thermometer.) When the turkey reaches the selected temperature, an alarm sounds.

Meanwhile, hook the pager (two AA batteries included) to your belt or drop it into your pocket. The pager beeps when the monitor's alarm sounds and works up to 75 feet away, liberating the cook from the kitchen. The probes can also be plugged into the pager, which displays a food's temperature on its LCD screen. So barbecuing brisket outside, roasting chicken in the oven, and keeping track of both is possible. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars The best BBQ help there is   December 1, 2008
F. C. De Jonge (the Netherlands)
This is the best help there is for your bbq.
It will enable you to see the temprature of your meat at all times without opening the lid of your bbq. It will give you a warning when your meat is reaching the desired temprature. And with two probes you can use it for two parts of the meat, e.i. brest and leg of the chicken or two peaces of meat.

5 out of 5 stars Great BBQ Tool   November 16, 2008
Molly (Sacramento, CA)
This is a great tool for BBQing. You can watch the temp of two different kinds of meat at the same time. Very acurate and easy to use. Our food came out so tender and not charred, and we were inside watching TV!

2 out of 5 stars Great idea, but it doesn't last   October 31, 2008
L. A. Kane (Seattle, WA USA)
I bought a high-end Cookshack smoker several months ago. It is a wonderful product, but did not come with a temperature probe. Opening the door while smoking can adversely affect what you cook, so this wireless thermometer with two, independent probes seemed like exactly what I needed to fill that gap. And it was, for the few weeks it lasted... The first probe died after only three uses despite that I never cranked the unit above 225 degrees. It wasn't the thermometer or remote unit, as the other probe worked fine in either port and the receiver was perfectly synched with the base unit, but for some reason the probe began registering a temperature some sixty degrees off reality. The second probe worked for eight uses before dying as well. Rather then trying to replace the probes tossed this piece of junk and picked up a competitor's product. The TruTemp unit comes with only one probe and no remote, but it was half the price and has lasted three months with no problems. Sadly the Maverick has a great concept, one I really wish had worked, but without sufficient quality or reliability it does not succeed with it. I doubt that I will ever purchase their products again. Just can't trust 'em...

2 out of 5 stars Read the reviews and think twice   October 23, 2008

I ordered this to go with my new Big Green Egg...after reading some of the reviews on wireless thermometers I liked the idea of one probe in the meat and one on the cooking surface to accurately measure cooking temp.

After receiving and experimenting with the Maverick ET-7 I found that:
1 - with both probes plugged in and reading the same temperature, they were 2 degrees different
2 - "instant read" took at LEAST 45 seconds and many times longer
3 - it was very DIFFICULT to get the wireless unit to sync to the base
3 - if you turn the unit off you have to reset the clock!

Reading the product reviews always helps me so I hope this helps with your decision.

I have had no problems and this works well for what I need...I would buy again. Note: You don't want to kink the braided thermocouple wire or it will break wire internally and leave you with a direct short...If you do not kink these wires it should last for several years!
